FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?
We are 1/4 mile from Berths 3 & 4, and just short of a mile from Berths 1 & 2. You can take a pleasant stroll by putting the water on your left and walking until you see our little red building, take the free downtown shuttle during the summer, or get a cab from anywhere on the island.

If your ship is docked in Ward Cove, take the shuttle bus into town. It will drop you off in the Berth 4 parking lot, put the water on your left, and walk a short distance back towards Ward Cove until you see our little red building on your right.

When are you open?
We are open year-round. It’s just the two of us here, though, so if you find we’re not open when you plan to visit, let us know, and we’re happy to arrange to be here.

Who are you?
We are a locally-owned and operated specialty yarn and fiber shop.

It’s just the two of us, so you’ll either find Deborah or, when she needs help or a break, Eric in the shop.

What type of yarn and fiber do you sell?
All but the coned weaving yarn is hand dyed. The yarn and fiber in our front room is dyed by A Gentle Whisper (aka Deborah) here in Ketchikan. The back room is full of hand-dyed yarn sourced directly from the dyers themselves. We also have coned weaving yarn that is machine dyed for the type of consistency and volume weavers need.

Do you sell anything other than yarn and fiber?
Yep! We have handmade notions (stitch markers, storage tins, project bags…), quality tools (needles, hooks, felting pads…), quality & handmade equipment (spinning wheels, looms, ball winders…), new & used books, and fun novelty items.

Why another yarn shop?
Decades after falling in love with all things fiber, Deborah found herself in a position to share her experiences and joy of yarn crafting. This shop is just that, wrapped in friendliness and packaged in quaint country style. Besides, who can ever have enough yarn?

Do you give lessons or have classes?
Yep! Drop in or call whenever you’d like to learn a new skill, ask a question, get project help, or sit and craft. It seems easiest to meet people where they are, so Deborah will work with one or more people at a time. Learn to knit, crochet, weave, spin, dye, blend, or design.
