Description

The Ketchikan Collection is a series of beaded lace patterns that highlight the rugged beauty of Ketchikan, Alaska using the unique qualities of Wonderland’s Unicorn yarn. Buy individually or as a pattern book.

Much of Southeast Alaska is home to Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in America, and Revillagigedo Island is no exception. Ketchikan is surrounded by woodlands, offering breathtaking views full of rich colors and heady aromas. Four of the worlds near 30 species of alder are native to Alaska, so it’s quite common to see these trees throughout the forest with their broad, rounded, serrated leaves.

In rich, earthy forest colors, Tongass National Forest shawlette paints bead-veined foliage reminiscent of the alder in the shape of a leaf bordered by a neat I-cord and slightly bent by strategic lace short rows, as if in a soft breeze.

With the help of lace short rows, two earth-toned colors fade into each other to create a balanced, well-fitting shawlette. The center vein of the overall leaf shape is made up of multiple small leaves whose center decreases are adorned with beads. The short rows require nothing but a row turn, and any floats are easily caught and tucked into passing stitches as the short rows are knit out.
