Fiber Processing 101: Hand and Drum Carding

Did you ever wonder where yarn comes from? How does it go from sheep to shelf? What special secret skills do fiber processors have? There’s a free class for that!

Who:  Ages 18 and above are welcome to attend.

What:  The class will be full of patient instruction. Bring any materials specified by the class requirements, a willingness to listen, and friendly smile.

Materials for this class: None required

If you have any of these, you are encouraged to bring them:

  • a drum carder
  • hand carders
  • raw & washed fiber

**Note: we will have a brief lesson on washing fiber, but, because of the time involved, we’ll work on already washed fiber**

Where:  All classes will be held in the shop.

When:  Classes are held on Wednesdays from 4-6pm. The store will be closed to business during these hours so the instructor can focus completely on you. Each series lasts 4 weeks and meets every other week to give you time to finish your homework. Classes will, therefore, run two at a time on alternate weeks. Be sure to note which class is held on which Wednesday. If no one has come by 4:30pm, the instructor will leave, so be sure to come on time or let us know you’ll be late–we’d hate to miss you.

Why:  Why not?!

How:  Let us know as soon as possible that you’ll be joining the class. Registration is informal and can be as easy as coming that morning and saying you’ll be there. We will be unable to take drop-ins, unfortunately, so please don’t make us turn you away!
